Literacy-
Our District is implementing a district wide K-5 literacy curriculum called Wonders. Students progress through a series of activities and lessons to support their developmental reading levels. Students will participate in whole and small group learning. Whole group (dependent upon the grade level) may include:
Within small group instruction, teachers set up flexible rotations (working with anywhere from 3-4 groups per day) based on the needs of students. The groupings consistently change based on assessment data. Explicit instruction of new information is provided as teachers work with each small group based on a rotational schedule that the teacher creates to best suit the needs of the students in his/her classroom. Within the small groups, students are actively manipulating the content! While a small group of students is working with the teacher, the other students are rotating through literacy work stations/centers. The centers provide students with additional support in specific skills. Each work station reinforces previously taught skills. Students are actively participating as they complete activities within the station that encourage active manipulation of the content!

- Introduction of the concepts
- Listening comprehension activities
- Word work that involves: phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, high-frequency words, vocabulary
- Shared reading
- Writing that includes interactive writing, independent writing, modeled writing and grammar
- Reading anchor texts and responding to reading
- Reading a paired selection that aligns with the skill of focus
- Author's craft
- Integrating content standards such as science and social studies
- Fluency activities
- Progress monitoring
